Apple plans to build two new data centers in Waukee, near Des Moines, at a cost of $1.375 billion. The Iowa Economic Development Authority approved $207.8 million in incentives for the tech company to construct the Iowa data center division facilities, which will run on 100 percent renewable energy, sources say.

Apple plans to build the first facility in April 2020, followed by the second center in April 2021, on 2,000 acres it plans to acquire in Waukee, about 20 miles outside of Des Moines. “We think this is a great banner day for Iowa,” said Debi Durham, Iowa Economic Development Authority director.

“It’s a great day to celebrate.”
