The parents of NBA star of Steph Curry and Steph’s sister Sydel-   are getting divorced, ending a 33-year marriage. The couple met at  Virginia Tech University and married in 1988. Sonya Curry filed for divorce from Dell Curry.

In a statement to People, they confirmed: “After exploring a trial separation over the past year and much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire is for our family’s continued happiness.

Dell played  in the  basketball league from 1986 to 2002. And was on teams  including the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He played a star guard for the Charlotte Hornets for ten seasons. His now estranged wife, Sonya is the owner of a Christian Montessori school in North Carolina since 1995 with Dell. Sonya reported  how she turned her experiences with racism while growing up in Radford, Virginia, into valuable life lessons for her children.

“I wanted them to understand that in their world that could be seen as sheltered they needed to hear stories,” Sonya Curry told The Undefeated during All-Star Weekend. “The biggest thing she told us is that we grew up a little different than she did,” said Stephen Curry. “She was always quick to remind us of up on the realities around the country and to appreciate our experience.” Reports The Undefeated
