An arrest warrant document claims that a Colorado dentist, accused of poisoning his wife, did so to begin a new life with his alleged lover. While the mother of his six children was supposedly dying in the hospital, James Toliver Craig, flew his mistress, a Texas orthodontist with whom he had exchanged “sexually explicit” emails, to Denver, according to the document.
Just two days before his 43-year-old wife, Angela Craig, was admitted to the hospital after complaining of headaches and dizziness, Craig had reportedly searched online for information on poisons that could kill a person without being detected. He apparently ordered a canister of toxic potassium cyanide from his office, according to the affidavit, reports said.
He also supposedly searched the internet for “pure arsenic will kill a human;’ information on arsenic detection in Autopsy; Undetectable Poisons; and ‘how to make poison.’ According to the affidavit, Craig intended to “end his wife’s life by searching for unseen means of murder, giving her poisons that correspond with her hospitalized symptoms, and working on beginning a new life with [his lover].”
After being admitted last Wednesday, Angela’s health quickly deteriorated. She was put on a ventilator and then declared brain dead. On Sunday, she was taken off from the life support system. according to the police.
A picture of the events leading up to the alleged murder is painted in the affidavit, which mentions a troubled marriage, infidelity, money issues, and even an earlier episode where Craig allegedly poisoned Angela. Craig “had multiple affairs with several women, told Angela he had been addicted to pornography since he was a teenager, and drugged Angela” for about six years, according to Angela’s sister’s statement to the police.
According to reports, Craig attempted to claim that he had purchased the potassium cyanide because his wife was suicidal. However, investigators said that Angela did not exhibit any suicidal ideas. Division Chief Mark Hildebrand of the Aurora Police Department described the suspected poisoning as “a heinous, intricate, and planned murder.”
