Dolly Parton the legendary performer has added one more notch to her belt- as she became a coronavirus vaccine sponsor.  The diva’s name appeared, along with other sponsors in a preliminary report on the Moderna vaccine. She donated $1 million to COVID-19 research in April and a part of it was used to fund this promising vaccine.

“Praise the lord!” she told “Today” host Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “I’m just very grateful that this is happening, and if I had anything to do with it, that’s great.”

Parton said that she’d found out her donation contributed to the vaccine trial on Tuesday. She told BBC’s “The One Show” that she felt “very honored and very proud” to be a small piece of what could be an essential treatment for COVID-19.

Parton had donated to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s COVID-19 research in early April, this year. At that time there were around 200,000 cases in the US. Currently there are over 11.3 million cases and around 250,000 American have died of coronavirus.

The Moderna, Inc.  (Nasdaq: MRNA) vaccine is a promising one as it has a high efficacy of 95.5%. Dr. Fauci had said that it will be made available initially to high risk groups including the elderly, health care workers and people with underlying medical conditions.
