    Europe Ransomware Attack – CWEB.com

Today we have received report that several companies confirmed so far to have fallen victim to : Chernobyl’s radiation monitoring system, DLA Piper law firm, pharma company Merck, a number of banks, an airport, the Kiev metro, Danish shipping and energy company Maersk, British advertiser WPP and Russian oil industry company Rosnoft. The attacks were widespread in Ukraine, affecting Ukrenergo, the state power distributor, and several of the country’s banks.

A new ransomware virus dubbed GoldenEye as systems used to monitor radiation at Chernobyl were crippled along with a US pharmaceutical company. The attack began in Ukraine as the country’s power grid, airport, national bank and communications firms were first to report problems, before it spread rapidly throughout Europe. Companies in Norway, Russia, Denmark and France are among those to have confirmed issues so far.
