Florida High-School Teacher Arrested for Hiding Runaway Teen at her own Home

Authorities claim that Kelly Simpson, a female high school teacher at Charlotte High School in Florida, kept a 15-year-old student who was in love with her hidden in her home after learning that his parents and the police were hunting for him.

According to an affidavit of arrest, the child, DJ, got into a fight with his parents last Friday after skipping school and stole $100 from their house on Manatee Lane in Port Charlotte. At first, Simpson admitted to Charlotte County Sheriff’s officers that she had given the youngster a ride but had no idea of his current location.

The adolescent vanished without returning to his phone or his medication, which prompted his worried parents to report the incident to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives searched the boy’s social media extensively and tried to identify him using financial information and other gadgets, but days passed with no sign of the adolescent. He had left his cell phone at home and had failed to leave a note.

The detectives got a lead and visited the house where DJ was supposedly residing, but the resident said that DJ had been picked up by a woman called Kelly who was driving a black automobile. When Detective Jonathan Murray arrived at Simpson’s home, she claimed to know the youngster was missing from a signboard, but would not allow the police to search her house, because she said he was not there. She said that she had picked him up from Punta Gorda and then dropped him at a petrol station.

It was not until the investigator warned her that she might face criminal charges if they later discovered the youngster was present there, that she admitted he was inside her house. She was given a $5,000 bond and asked to have a public defender assigned to her case.

Administrators at Charlotte High School stated she was placed on administrative leave and her teaching duties were suspended. The revelation stunned the kids at the school, but others claimed she had been overly pleasant in class. One student, to whom she also teaches English, appeared to dispel any notion that the teacher and DJ were in a romantic relationship.
