Oklahoma city police discovered the remains of four men, all of whom were described as friends and reported missing, in a river . The bodies of Mark, 32, Billy Chastain, 30, Mike Sparks, 32, and Alex Stevens, 29, were found in the Deep Fork River in east Oklahoma. The bodies had been dismembered.
The dead’ discovery added to the intrigue surrounding the missing men in Okmulgee, a population of 11,000 people located roughly 40 miles south of Tulsa. Police identified the bodies as males, but a medical examiner’s confirmation of their identities was still pending.
According to Okmulgee police chief, Joe Prentice, the dismemberment of all four remains before they were thrown into the river is what made it so difficult to identify them. The river seemed to be a garbage dump and a murder inquiry is underway.
The Deep Fork River seemed to have something unusual in it on Friday, according to the Okmulgee Police Department, which prompted detectives to discover what appeared to be human remains sticking out of the water.
The men rode bicycles out of Billy Chastain’s house in Okmulgee at approximately 8 p.m. on October 9 before being reported missing 40 miles (64 km) south of Tulsa, there are approximately 11,000 people living in Okmulgee. According to Prentice, the bicycles have not yet been located and that the men planned to “perform some sort of illegal act” that evening, based on a witness’ story.
Joe Kennedy, the owner of a salvage yard in Okmulgee, is seen as a person of interest in the investigation after “evidence of a violent event” was found on a nearby property, according to Prentice. A ping from Mark Chastain’s phone directed police to that location.
Police report that all four of the victims had gunshot wounds, and their bodies had been severed. Their official causes of death are still under investigation. In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Teresa Stevens revealed her son Alex, 29, and his three companions were “first shot many times, hacked in half at their waist,” and then tossed into a river. The devastated mother said it has been difficult for her to deal with the shocking news because she not only had to learn that her son had been murdered but also that his body had been chopped in two.
The chief urged the public to report any sightings of Kennedy, who had gone missing and might have been suicidal but had not been labeled a suspect in the investigation or crime.
