Friendsgiving Review: Kat Dennings & Malin Akerman Celebrate A Low Key Holiday With Friends

Two lifelong friends Kat Dennings and Malin Akerman decide to spend a holiday together, drowning their sorrows. However, family members, friends and exes gate crash and it becomes a comical bash where the guest list keeps escalating.

Akerman plays Molly, a divorcee who has an S & M fling with Jeff (Jack Donnelly) who is smitten with her invites himself to a pie feast, later that day, with her infant and her bestie Abby (Dennings). The quiet party becomes a ruckus as more and more people join in. Lauren (Aisha Tyler) another friend join in ostensibly to support her friends but she actually wishes to get away from her picture perfect family temporarily. Molly’s Mom flies in from Sweden, unannounced and adds to the mayhem as she invites

Gunnar (Ryan Hansen) a handsome actor and Molly’s ex-boyfriend.

The cast is stellar but the comedy by writer-director Nicole Paone falls short of expectations though there are a few likable things to focus on including the addition of shrooms, parading a bunch of lesbians as a love interest for Abby and focusing on a crisis that affects the little tot. This results in the besties have a falling out that adds to the chaos. The besties make up eventually.
