Giants blow out Cardinals for sixth straight win

Mike Yastrzemski, Evan Longoria and Curt Casali drove in two runs each as the visiting San Francisco Giants routed the St. Louis Cardinals 8-2 Friday for their sixth consecutive victory.

Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb (5-1) allowed one run on three hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out one.

Jordan Hicks (1-3) gave up three runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings as the Cardinals lost for the fifth time in six games.

Paul Goldschmidt drove in both Cardinals runs with an RBI grounder and a solo homer while extending his on-base streak to 20 games.

Each team played small ball to score its first run.

St. Louis’ Tommy Edman walked leading off the first inning and stole second base. He took third on a wild pitch and scored on Goldschmidt’s groundout.

The Giants tied the game 1-1 in the second inning. After Yastrzemski was hit by a pitch with one out, he moved up on a groundout and advanced to third when Brandon Crawford reached first while striking out on a wild pitch.

Luis Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to left field.

The Giants took a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Hicks hit LaMonte Wade Jr. and allowed Brandon Belt’s single. With two outs, Yastrzemski hit a two-run double off the glove of center fielder Harrison Bader.

In the seventh inning, Gonzalez hit a one-out single and Casali drew a walk off Packy Naughton. Jake Walsh entered in relief and walked Austin Slater to load the bases before striking out Belt and retiring Wilmer Flores on flyout.

The Giants pushed their lead to on 8-1 in the eighth inning against relievers Nick Wittgren and T.J. McFarland. Crawford hit an RBI single, Longoria smacked a two-run double and Casali launched a two-run homer.

Goldschmidt got one run back in the eighth inning with a solo homer off reliever Zack Littell.
