Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company will not require  employees to return to the office until Oct. 18 amid the latest Covid-19 outbreaks. This is a good decision as hopefully the Delta variant has played itself out by or before that time.

In  December 2020 Google delayed staff to return to offices to Sept. 1, and then having employees be required to work in person for at least three days a week.

“We are excited that we’ve started to re-open our campuses and encourage Googlers who feel safe coming to sites that have already opened to continue doing so,” Pichai stated in his email to employees. “At the same time, we recognize that many Googlers are seeing spikes in their communities caused by the Delta variant and are concerned about returning to the office.”

We’ve continued our focus on delivering trusted services to help people around the world. Our Cloud services are helping businesses, big and small, accelerate their digital transformations.”

Ruth Porat, CFO of Google and Alphabet said: “Total revenues of $55.3 billion in the first quarter reflect elevated consumer activity online and broad-based growth in advertiser revenue. We’re very pleased with the ongoing momentum in Google Cloud, with revenues of $4.0 billion in the quarter reflecting strength and opportunity in both GCP and Workspace.”
