A University of Idaho graduate who previously lived in the off-campus house where four students were killed spoke about the house in which the four students met their fateful death at the hands of a mystery killer.
“It’s definitely an old, creaky house,” said Cole Alteneder, a 2022 graduate who lived there during his junior year. According to Alteneder, one could not go up the stairs or on any floor without everyone in the house knowing. Everyone could hear the footsteps.
Three current residents were stabbed to death in the house in the early hours of Nov. 13: roommates Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle, as well as Kernodle’s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin. There have been no arrests.
According to police, two other roommates survived and likely slept through the murders, despite the fact that they are not suspects. The four victims were on the second and third floors, while the survivors were on the ground floor. According to Alteneder, each of the three floors has two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The neighborhood and this house have a “very active party life,” said Alteneder. He also said that a lot of students are familiar with the inside of the house. They would party and people would just jump over the fence and walk away if the cops came.
According to police, they have received over 11,900 tips and over 4,500 digital media submissions. The police also stated that investigators are continuing with their request for additional pictures, video, and social media content because they believe someone has information that adds context to what occurred on the night of the murders. It requested people, whether they believed their information is significant or not, it could be one piece on the jigsaw puzzle piece that could help solve these murders.
