Co- founders of Instagram Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger left Facebook in 2018. Both Kevin and Mike have introduced a new app called Artifact funded completely with their own money.
Artifact is a personalized news feed that utilizes machine learning to learn about your interests and will eventually allow you to debate those stories with your friends. The business intends to allow users access as soon as possible. You can sign up for the app here; it is accessible for both Android and iOS. Currently the app is “wait list only.”
Engadget reported, “When you first launch Artifact, you’ll see a central feed populated by stories from publications like The New York Times. As you read more articles, the app will begin personalizing your feed.”
There will be a social media feature where articles will get highlighted from people you follow with commentary about the content. Private discussions will also be featured via a direct-message inbox.
The Instagram post by Mike Krieger read, “Excited to announce what @kevin and I have been working on with a talented team the past year+ – Artifact, a personalized news feed driven by the latest in artificial intelligence. We’re gradually letting people in as we scale up; sign up for the waitlist at artifact.news.
Josh Constine wrote on Instagram. Super excited for this. It feels like we’ve aggregated/subscribed to news by topic, outlet, or writer simply because we didn’t have better tech, but human interests are far too nuanced to be perfectly aligned with one of those, so there’s inevitable mismatch of content to reader. Love the idea of assessing each article individually to rank for what a specific reader wants. If you ever want a journalist’s perspective I would love to chat.”
