According to a new filing, Nissan a leading Japanese automaker has filed four new trademarks in the US. All these trademarks are related to Web3. The automaker has also experimented with auto sales that are based in the virtual world–the metaverse. The filings also reveal Nissan’s (NSANY) plans in Web3.

On March 7, Nissan filed trademarks at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the following:
INFINITI
NISMO
NISSAN.

According to the filing, Japanese automaker has plans to develop virtual goods that would be authenticated by NFTs. They also plan for a retail store service that would be online as well as provide an online marketplace that will be used by NFT buyers and sellers.

Nissan had ambitious plans for Web3 as it included advertising services as well as “entertainment services” in the metaverse.

Nissan has developed a website that details the company’s plans, future activities and more on Web3. It is also considering a digital wallet that would be made using “non-downloadable computer software.”

Nissan already has a presence in the metaverse. On March 8, it announced its new “demonstration experiment” in the metaverse. It included a virtual store called the “Nissan Hype Lab.” The store offers the chance to “study, consult, test drive and purchase” vehicles from the company, in the metaverse.

The multinational automaker became the first Japanese vehicle manufacturer to launch an auto sales project in the metaverse. Auto sales in the real world are declining due to various factors and Nissan is looking to tap into a new market that uses Web3 rather than Web2.

Despite the crypto meltdown, there is a lot of growth in Web3 as blockchain technology is used in the metaverse as well as for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and more. Web3 is a small part of the present, as of now. Web3 in its various avatars is expected to become a larger part of the web by the end of the decade.
