LPGA LPGA cancels Taiwan tournament due to travel restrictions

The LPGA Tour announced Wednesday that the Taiwan Swinging Skirts LPGA, a tournament scheduled for Oct. 27-30, was canceled for the third consecutive year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in Asia.

“We are thankful to Swinging Skirts Golf Foundation and our partners across the region for their continued support and all the hard work involved in staging this event,” the LPGA said in a news release. “While we are disappointed to have to make this decision, the LPGA Tour and Swinging Skirts Golf Foundation look forward to returning in 2023.”

It’s the second tournament of a three-week Asian swing that the LPGA canceled over travel constraints. The Buick LPGA Shanghai was previously scrapped, also for a third straight season.

That leaves one tournament to be staged in Asia in October, the BMW Ladies Championship in Wonju, South Korea, from Oct. 20-23. That tournament is still expected to go on, with the LPGA Tour announcing Monday that Wonju’s Oak Valley Country Club would host.

When the Taiwan Swinging Skirts LPGA was last contested in 2019, Nelly Korda won the event for the second year in a row.
