Although Microsoft (MSFT) has remained behind Google in search engine capacities for decades, the Redmond based tech company’s search engine Bing is slowly but surely catching up. Bing is edging closer to the most popular search engine Google, after the introduction of the power of artificial intelligence. A recent announcement by Microsoft said that Bing has surpassed 100 million active users in a day.

On Wednesday, corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi revealed the news in a blog post. He also noted that about one third of the over 100 million daily active users were new to Bing. He mentioned that this data validates the Microsoft view that search engines need to be reinvented. He also proved that chat, search, answers and creation in one place has been welcomed by users.
Google has more than a billion users, to date but Microsoft crossing the 100 million mark shows that the tech company is beginning to offer competition to Google, which has maintained its lead in search for decades.
VP Mehdi said in the blog, “This is a surprisingly notable figure, and yet we are fully aware we remain a small, low, single digit share player. He added, “That said, it feels good to be at the dance.”
Microsoft believes that two factors have contributed to its increased presence in search and more. They include an increase in the number of people who are using Edge (the browser from Microsoft) and the second reason is the addition of the Prometheus AI model. The VP said that this led to an improvement in the quality of search results shown by Bing.

Microsoft’s search engine’s user numbers also increased after the launch of the new Bing Mobile app. It resulted in a six-fold increase of daily active users when compared with pre-launch levels.
Google’s early attempts with its Chat AI called Bard were inaccurate in its first demo in February. However, as it improves over time it might provide competition to Microsoft’s AI.
