MLB Angels C Kurt Suzuki leaves game with neck injury

Los Angeles Angels catcher Kurt Suzuki left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night when he was hit in the neck by a pitch in the dirt from starter Michael Lorenzen prior to the start of the third inning.

Suzuki, in his 16th season in the majors and second with the Angels, appeared to collapse as he was being helped into the dugout.

The team announced later in the game that Suzuki was diagnosed with a neck contusion and undergoing further testing.

Angels manager Joe Maddon said after the game that Suzuki was “fine” and back at the ballpark after being checked out at a hospital.

A career .257 hitter entering the game, Suzuki was 0-for-1 Saturday, leaving him batting just .188 this season. Max Stassi came in to catch for the Angels and went 0-for-2 with two walks in the Blue Jays’ 6-5 win.
