The Los Angeles Angels placed right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a right shoulder strain. The move is retroactive to Monday.

In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled right-hander Jose Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Lorenzen was scheduled to start Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. The Angels planned to replace him on the mound with lefty Reid Detmers.

Lorenzen, 30, lasted just three innings in his most recent start, on July 1 against the host Houston Astros. He yielded eight runs (seven earned) and three home runs in an 8-1 loss.

That dropped him to 6-6 on the year with a 4.94 ERA over 13 starts.

The Angels signed Lorenzen, an Anaheim-area native, last offseason and added him to their rotation after he spent his first seven major league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, mostly in a bullpen role.

In 308 career games (39 starts), Lorenzen is 29-29 with a 4.18 ERA and 14 saves.

Marte, 26, has yet to appear in the majors this year. He went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in four relief outings for Los Angeles last season. In 24 relief appearances for Salt Lake this year, he was 0-2 with two saves and a 6.65 ERA.
