NFL Saints sign veteran LB Jon Bostic

The New Orleans Saints announced the signing of free-agent inside linebacker Jon Bostic on Monday among a slew of roster moves.

Bostic, 31, will join his sixth NFL team. He played the past three seasons for Washington, where he started 35 of 36 games and collected 245 tackles, two interceptions and four sacks.

Bostic was a 2013 second-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears and spent two seasons with them before also suiting up for the New England Patriots (2015), Indianapolis Colts (2017) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2018). He has 559 tackles and 9.5 sacks over 106 career games (81 starts).

He’s the second veteran inside linebacker that New Orleans has moved to sign this month. On Aug. 5 the team brought in Kiko Alonso, who has not played an NFL game since tearing his right ACL in a playoff game with the Saints on Jan. 6, 2020. But the next day, he decided instead to retire from football.

The Saints also signed defensive end Niko Lalos and re-signed defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson on Monday. Lalos appeared in six games for the New York Giants in 2020 and did not play in the league last year. Johnson, a five-year NFL veteran, had been released last week.

New Orleans waived defensive lineman T.J. Carter, defensive back Jack Koerner, defensive end Scott Patchan, kicker John Parker Romo and wide receiver Easop Winston Jr. The team also waived defensive backs Jordan Brown and Isaiah Pryor and reached an injury settlement with DB Bryce Thompson. Offensive tackle Ethan Greenidge was placed on injured reserve.

The Saints’ moves came one day before the leaguewide deadline for teams to bring training camp rosters down from 90 to 85 players.
