Police release footage of shooting near DC’s Logan Circle, Asks Public for information on car and shooters

On Thursday, before 8.30 p.m., shots rang out near the intersection of 14th and Riggs streets in Northwest Washington D.C. People who were dining out near Logan Circle heard the shots and scurried to safety. Police said that they also heard the shots as they were in the vicinity and found two men who were shot. They said that two men had been hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

In a news conference, Robert Contee, DC Police Chief said that initial investigations showed that one person was targeted while the other one could be a bystander. The Department was looking for a male who was wearing a lime green/yellow sweater with a hood. He had fled the scene in an older black Honda Civic which had DC plates.

The footage also showed that there was more than one person in the car who could be involved in the shooting. The car was moving towards S Street, eastward. The Police Chief has asked the community to help identify the suspects or the vehicle. People also posted videos in the vicinity who were running as the shots rang out.

Chief Contee also said that there was a need to get the court systems back as there were individuals on the streets of D.C. whom the police recognize as violent felons. He also said that they needed to make sure that such individuals were held accountable for the actions that they commit in the community.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser joined the Police Chief at Thursday’s press briefing. The mayor said that they had to press on everything that they knew to stop crime immediately. Bowser said that it would not be a single thing. She said that she would repeat what she said that they needed to get to people before they used their guns and that was how they could stop shootings.

Bowser described the latest and earlier shootings and violent incidents that have been occurring in the streets as “an illegal firearm brazenly used in the streets of D.C.”

On Saturday, gun shots were heard outside Washington Baseball Stadium when a game between the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres was being played. The game was stopped, the players were ushered off the field and the crowd was also ushered out. Three people were shot outside the stadium and the shootout allegedly took place between two cars.
