Raptors turn up defensive pressure in win over Kings

Pascal Siakam had 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as the Toronto Raptors began a season-high, seven-game trip with a 113-95 win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

Precious Achiuwa scored 19 points, Fred VanVleet added 17, and Chris Boucher and Gary Trent Jr. added 16 apiece for Toronto, which held the Kings to a season-low point total. O.G. Anunoby had 11 points after missing one game due to an ankle injury.

Kevin Huerter made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead Sacramento, which trailed by as many as 20 in the third quarter. De’Aaron Fox and Keegan Murray scored 16 points apiece, and Harrison Barnes chipped in 10.

Sacramento trailed by four early in the third quarter before Toronto used a 20-4 run over the next six minutes to build a commanding 80-60 lead. Siakam scored 10 points during the critical stretch.

Domantas Sabonis finished with nine points and eight rebounds but committed a career-high nine turnovers for the Kings, who trailed 84-67 after scoring just 17 points in the third quarter.

Sacramento cut the deficit to 101-89 with 4:39 remaining on Huerter’s dunk before Toronto scored the next eight points to secure the victory.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm in the first quarter. Toronto ended the period with a 24-23 lead despite shooting 4 of 13 (30.8 percent) from 3-point range.

The Raptors maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and took a 58-50 lead into the break. Boucher and Trent scored a combined 26 points for the Raptors.

Scottie Barnes finished with seven points and 10 assists for Toronto, which has won two straight following a three-game skid.

One game after tying the NBA record with 12 3-pointers in the first quarter of a win over the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento was 13 of 32 (40.6 percent) from beyond the arc against Toronto.

The Kings had won seven of their last eight games entering the contest, but trailed throughout after taking a brief lead at the end of the first quarter.
