Some New Features in Google Photos May Be Locked Behind A Pay Wall

Arguably the best software after Gmail, Google Photos offer excellent features including organization and editing when compared with other free software available. But this may change soon as Google Photos is planning to keep a few new features behind a paywall.

Google’s image processing artificial intelligence is state of the art. Its portrait image features on smartphones does not require extensive depth information from its hardware.

Google Photos v5.18 included additional features for Google One members according to XDA’s report. Shortly after this report the “color pop” feature was locked, and access was granted to Google One members.

In a statement to The Verge Google said that the feature is only paywalled on photos that have no inherent depth information.

“In Google Photos color pop is a feature that continues to be available for anyone to use at no cost, for photos with depth information (such as portrait mode). As a part of an ongoing rollout that began earlier this year, Google One members can apply the feature to even more photos of people, including those without depth information.

It effectively means that Google is not locking the feature but it is making it available on more photos but you have to pay for it as it is part of the rollout for Google One members, which is paid.
