Damon Dash, who is co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records as well as hiphop influencer, was a recent guest of Shannon Sharpe’s podcast “Club Shay Shay.” Dash spoke about his relationship with Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z that had deteriorated and said that he was “disappointed” and “embarrassed” by the duo fighting legally.

Sharpe said that Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, had mentioned Damon when he gave his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Speech and had thanked him as they had made history together although they didn’t see “eye to eye.” To which Dash replied that he said that because “we’re in court right now.”

Although the two of them have had their ups and down in the past, the recent legal dispute came up when reports mentioned that Dame Dash had tried to sell Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” album as a non fungible token (NFT). Dash said that the Brooklyn rapper had tried to buy his share the same album at an “unacceptable” price. Jay-Z owns 50 percent of the album while Rock-A-Fella Records, of which Dash is a part, owns the other half.

Dash told Sharpe that Jay-Z sued him “for something he said that I did that I didn’t.” He added that he had countersued as the rapper was “redirecting funds for Reasonable Doubt.” He said that he didn’t realize it.

Dash also spoke of social media and streaming platforms algorithms and noted that they had contributed to fomenting feuds between rappers. He said that the program knew how to trigger people and added that their “dysfunction” adds to social media profits.

He also said that his rule of thumb was that he was not hurting anybody with the same color skin as him.

Shannon Sharpe, a Pro Football Hall of Fame champion wanted to know why Dash and Carter couldn’t get into a room and “hug it out.” Dash replied that they were straight. When Dash said that he and the highest-earning rapper saw each other, they gave each other a pound to which the three-time Super Bowl champion told Dash to “get out of court, then.”
