Sun aim to complete home-and-home sweep of Fever

The Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever will square off for the second time in three days when they meet on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis.

The Sun (3-1) had six players score in double figures during their 94-85 victory over the Fever (2-5) on Friday in Uncasville, Conn.

In her second game this season, DeWanna Bonner went a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range to highlight her 18-point performance.

Jonquel Jones collected 19 points and eight rebounds in just 24 minutes for the Sun, who have won three in a row.

“Our chemistry is still being built and we’re still getting there and we understand that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, so we’re moving in the right direction,” Jones told the Hartford Courant.

After winning back-to-back games in early May, the Fever have now lost three in a row.

Indiana shot an impressive 54.0 percent from the floor, however it turned the ball over 19 times and was out-rebounded by six (31-25). The Sun outscored the Fever by 10 points in the third quarter.

The loss to the Sun also marked the second straight game the Fever played without No. 2 overall draft pick NaLyssa Smith. The Baylor product is dealing with an ankle injury.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever in scoring against Connecticut with 23 points. Emily Engstler, Queen Egbo and Destanni Henderson combined for 19 points, 14 rebounds and four steals.

Engstler, the fourth overall pick out of Louisville, is averaging 5.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game in her rookie campaign.

She knows there’s room for her to improve though.

“I think there’s plenty for me to work on still,” Engstler told FiveThirtyEight. “I’m still adjusting to the league and getting used to my teammates, how this organization wants us to defend. But I think that I’m doing everything that I can with physicality and energy.”
