Tinder co-founders’ legal dispute with Match is resolved for $441 million. One user has filed a federal class action lawsuit against Tinder, one of the many dating apps owned by the Match Group, alleging that it violates New York privacy laws by collecting biometric information, including facial recognition data.
Users of the app have filed a lawsuit against Tinder and its parent business Match Group Inc. Plaintiffs claim Illinois app users’ facial scans were improperly stored by Tinder. A federal court in Illinois received the Tinder class action case.
James Kim, the vice president of finance, and Rosette Pambakian, the vice president of marketing and communications, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit included Tinder co-founders Sean Rad, Justin Mateen, and Jonathan Badeen.
Naturally, Match had brushed off the claims as being “meritless,” stating that Tinder’s valuation had been established through a contractually outlined valuation process involving two independent worldwide banks. It had promised to zealously defend itself in court against the accusations.
As the case went on, the court rejected some of the plaintiffs’ allegations, including those alleging that the merger was illegal, that the release of products was improperly postponed, and those asking damages for unlawful contracting beyond breach of contract.
In additional news-A day before Match, its parent firm IAC/InterActiveCorp, and the founders of Tinder, including Sean Rad, were scheduled to deliver final arguments at the conclusion of a trial that lasted nearly a month in New York’s Supreme Court, the parties reached a deal.
Rad and other early founders and executives charged Match and IAC with undervaluing Tinder on purpose to avoid having to pay out billions in stock options.
A variety of legal disputes and incidents, including accusations of sexual misconduct, defamation, and Rad’s expulsion from the firm, have highlighted the strained relationship between former Tinder employees and Match. Fans have been exited for such a great news coming from the dating app.
