Tom Cruise Labels Shouting at Mission Impossibly crew over flouting COVID-19 protocols ‘Emotional’

In a recent interview with Empire, Tom Cruise has broken his silence on the shouting that took place late last year, when the crew of Mission Impossible 7 were shooting in London and a few of the crew threw COVID-19 protocols to the wind. An enraged Cruise lashed out at the careless crew and the clip went viral.

Cruise said that he stood by the statements he made at that time. He noted that there was “a lot at stake” during those tense moments. In the interview, he also said that he was thinking about the people he worked with and there was a palpable relief that they were working. He said that it was “very emotional.”

The 58-year-old actor said the entire crew was not present and only a few of the crew were present when he gave the careless crew members a dressing down.

The Los Angeles Times reported excerpts of the interview and said that the entire interview will be available on Friday.

Last December, tabloid, The Sun was the first to report the outburst which was filled with f bombs. The two-minute audio clip was later authenticated by reliable sources including the New York Times. The agency confirmed that it was indeed Tom Cruise who was ranting at unknown people who had apparently broken social distancing norms that were to be followed on the London set.

The film faced a break from shooting in Italy in February 2020. Shooting resumed in Rome later that year in October but was again shut down as a few of the cast or crew tested positive for COVID-19, according to Variety.

A source told PEOPLE that in all the years of the Mission Impossible franchise, no one had ever heard Tom raise his voice as he was usual laser-focused on filming.

The source also noted that the Mission Impossible 7 was very different as he, as the actor-producer had to film, while making sure that everyone stayed safe. These were “his” movies and Cruise, the perfectionist expects everybody to behave in the same way that he does, especially since he helped to set up the COVID-19 protocols. Mission Impossible 7 is scheduled to be released in May 2022.
