On Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump finally made an announcement at his Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida that he would run for the 2024 presidential elections, after dropping several hints, in the past few months. In an hour long speech, he said that he was formally announcing his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections. He was surrounded by some of his family members and faithful allies.

Donald Trump said, “In order to make America great and glorious again, I am today announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.” His announcement was received with huge cheers. He continued to talk about several events including the FBI raid at his residence “fake”dossier’, “the deep state”, lobbyists, criticism of President Biden and more.

Trump had filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission before making his official announcement well into his long speech. He also said that he would “unify people.” Trump claimed that he had unified the country in his last term.

Donald Trump had many of his family members with him at the ballroom in his private club including wife Melania Trump, Eric Trump and his wife Lara Trump, Barron Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner who was his White House advisor. Ivanka Trump was absent and has said in a statement that she wanted “to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family” and that she planned to support him “outside of the political arena.”

Son Donald Trump Jr. missed the announcement as he was reportedly on a hunting trip and bad weather prevented him from getting a flight back, in time for the Mar-A-Lago event. His younger daughter Tiffany Trump had got married, on Saturday at Mar-A-Lago and was also away.

Longtime supporters Mike Lindell of CEO of MyPillow, political advisor and friend Roger Stone, Stephen Miller and other aides were also present. Senators Lindsey Graham, Rep Ronny Jackson and a few other Republicans congratulated him, after the announcement.

Trump faced criticism from senior Republicans. Some of them thought that he needed to step down or that there was a need for a change in the GOP. They included
Former chief of staff Mike Mulvaney
Asa Hutchinson, governor of Arkansas
Former advisor Chris Christie
Chris Sununu, governor of New Hampshire.

Some of Trump’s foes criticized him with airplanes flying over the private club messaging banners such as “You Lost Again Donald”, a hashtag supporting Florida Governor DeSantis and “3X BIGLY LOSER.”

Major donors including the Blackstone Group, the Citadel group, Ricky Caplin and other donors might not support Trump as the Republican candidate for the presidential elections in 2024. They are saying that it is time for the younger generation of Republicans to run for the presidency.
