10 Killed in Mass Shooting in Monterey Park

Following a Lunar New Year celebration, a gunman killed ten people and injured ten more at a Monterey Park, California ballroom dance club sparking a manhunt for the suspect. The Officers from the Monterey Park police department responded to a “shots fired” complaint at a dance studio as the gunman entered the Star Dance Studio, located at 122 W. Garvey Ave. #B and started shooting.

Ten of the victims were declared dead at the site. There were five men and five females among them.

According to Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Capt. Andrew Meyer, the injured were transferred to hospitals and their conditions ranged from stable to serious.

Officers from the Monterey Park police department responded to a “shots fired” complaint at a dance studio on the one hundred blocks of West Garvey Avenue in Monterey Park at approximately 10:22 p.m.

“When deputies arrived on scene, they noticed multiple Individuals – patrons of the facility – pouring out of the location, shouting,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Andrew Meyer. Sheriff Robert Luna said during a press conference later Sunday that ten persons were pronounced dead at the scene, five women and five males.

Festivities for the Luna New Year have been cancelled in Monterey Park, California.

Patrons of the ballroom dance club said that the man who pulled the trigger may have been an Asian male. This information has not been verified. The suspect is still on the loose and an all hands on-on deck operation is underway right now.

Another shooting also took place in Alhambra just 17 minutes away and the police cannot verify if the two shootings are related. Police report he drove off in a white cargo van.   No one was hurt at the Lai Lai Ballroom and Studio on 120 blocks of South Garfield Avenue in Alhambra where the shooting occurred.

Former L.A. Sheriff Villanueva says the shooting looks to have been a targeted shooting and the odds are probable the shootings are related, he told KTLA news this morning.

Festivities for the Luna New Year have been cancelled in Monterey Park, California.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s station reports, when officers arrived at the location, they observed numerous victims and patrons in the parking lot of the business. Additional officers made entry into the business and located numerous gunshot victims. Monterey Park Fire Department responded to the scene and treated the injured. They pronounced ten of the victims deceased at the scene.
There were at least ten additional victims transported to numerous local hospitals. They are listed in various conditions from stable to critical.
