On May 14, 2022, a White man named Payton Gendron shot and killed 10 Black individuals while injuring three others in a hate-filled shooting at a Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo.
Just before convicted mass Buffalo shooter Gendron was to be sentenced to life in prison without parole, a man dressed in a gray suit headed toward and lunged at Gendron trying to physically attack him. At an emotional hearing, the shooter who killed ten people in a racially charged massacre at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket last year was led out of the courtroom by deputies after the attack, which was led by one of the victims’ relatives.
The man that lunged at Payton Gendron man was escorted out of the Erie County Courthouse in New York by law enforcement court room security police.
Gendron told the court, “I did a terrible thing that day. I shot and killed people because they were Black. Looking back now, I can’t believe I actually did it. I believed what I read online and acted out the hate and now I can’t take it back, but I wish I could.”
Those that died in the shooting were, Margus Morrison, Geraldine Talley and Tops security guard Aaron Salter, Massey, Ruth Whitfield, Pearly Young, Roberta Drury, Heyward Patterson, Celestine Chaney, and Andre Mackneil.
