Meta (META) released its newest headset called Quest Pro in October 2022. The major criticism against this headset was its huge price of $1,500. Meta has taken note of it and offered a discount of $400 in the US and the UK for a limited time. The Quest 2 headset was released two years ago and costs $400, which is the amount of discount offered in its newest model. The pro model was released keeping in mind early adopters, as well as businesses and developers.
The Quest Pro has features such as self-tracking controllers and partial light blockers. It also has a charging pad. Although it is a new headset, it still costs almost three times the price of the Quest 2 headset, after the limited period discount. It is not an upgrade or a replacement of Quest 2 but is a limited market niche product as of now. Meta has said that Quest 3 for consumers will be released this year.

The Quest Pro is larger in size and has a shorter battery life, which is seen as a disadvantage by some of its users.
Meta’s price reduction comes at a time when sales might not have reached the expected levels due to several factors including the economy as well as consumers waiting for new products from its competitors.
Sony has said that its PSVR2 will be launched in 2023. Apple is expected to debut its mixed reality headset called Reality Pro, this year. HTC is also expected to launch its professional headset called Vive XR Elite, with a price tag similar to Quest Pro, in 2023. So, Meta might be offering a limited discount for its Quest Pro as it is aware that the competition is getting its act together to release their headsets, in a limited market, as of now.
