A robber who struck a mother of three in the body after reportedly spotting her withdraw money from an ATM and following her for 23 miles, attacked her and left her paralyzed. Vietnamese woman, Nhung Truong, was attacked on February 13 by a black man in his 20s in what Houston police think to have been an incident, in which attackers keep an eye on their prey.
The incident was captured on surveillance footage, showing the suspect squeezing the victim until she drops her possessions, which included her passports for an impending journey home. She was then struck by the thief’s body, allegedly sustaining a spinal cord injury that changed the course of her life. Police now request assistance to identify the suspect from the people.
According to Houston police, around 11:30 a.m., Truong withdrew money from the Bank of America on Blackhawk Boulevard in Houston, and the suspect followed her nearly 24 miles. The thief can be seen in the video taking an envelope from Truong’s dispersed possessions that police think he believed to be cash, of about $4,300. He turned, and was about to sprint, but body-slammed Truong to the ground. It is claimed that Truong had been saving money to travel to Vietnam to see her relatives.
A black man in his early 20s who stands 5′ 8″ and seems to weigh about 140 pounds is the suspect. Nearly a month has passed since the attack, and Truong is having rehabilitation in the hopes of regaining his ability to walk. She stated that all she desired was for people to be aware of the potential outcomes. Truong said that she just needed to practice, attempt to walk, and do things.
According to Houston police, it was a juggling event in which robbers staked unwitting victims, like those using an ATM, before following them, robbing them, and occasionally attacking them at the appropriate time. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the victim.
