Weber State head coach Randy Rahe retired Monday after 16 seasons, walking away as the all-time wins leader at the school and the Big Sky Conference.

Weber State named longtime assistant coach Eric Duft the new head coach of the Wildcats.

Rahe, 61, amassed a record of 316-191, leading Weber St. to five regular-season titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances at the only school he ever coached. He was named Big Sky Coach of the Year four times.

“More than being the winningest coach in Weber State and Big Sky Conference history, Randy Rahe has exemplified running a program with integrity,” Weber State president Dr. Brad Mortensen said in a statement. “With Coach Rahe at the helm, we have always held our heads high. On behalf of the university, I sincerely want to thank Randy for being a model coach and the contributions he’s made to Wildcat basketball and all of Weber State.”

The Wildcats finished in the top three in the Big Sky standings in 13 of Rahe’s 16 seasons at Weber State. He coached six players to Big Sky MVP honors, including NBA star Damian Lillard, who twice was named conference MVP.

Duft, 49, has been an assistant under Rahe for all 16 seasons. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2009.

“We are excited for coach Duft to begin his tenure as the head coach at Weber State,” Weber St. athletic director Tim Crompton said. “His high character and passion for the game bode well for building the next phase of success and championships at Weber State.”
