Denzel Washington spoke about the incident, which has been termed as “slapgate” by the press, when he appeared at the International Leadership Summit by author and bishop—T.D. Jakes. Washington told Jake that Tyler Perry had come “immediately right over there with me.” He mentioned that he didn’t want to talk about what was said but said that they had said some prayers.

Washington also asked, “Who are we to condemn?” He added that he did not know the “ins and outs of the situation” but he knew that “the only solution was prayer” and that was the way he saw it.

The veteran actor of Hollywood said that there wasn’t an option for him to remain in his seat and not console Smith. He added, “That’s just not who I am.”

When Will Smith returned on stage to accept his Oscar award, he apologized and also thanked Washington who had told him to be careful at his “highest moment” as that was “when the devil comes for you.”
