Mohammad Mokhber has become the acting president of the Islamic Republic of Iran after the country confirmed the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash, on Sunday. Mokhber led a cabinet meeting on Monday. Earlier on Monday the country officially declared the death of Raisi and a five day period of mourning in Iran. It also declared Mokhber to be the new interim president.
Other dignitaries were also aboard on the helicopter before it crashed in a remote mountainous area near the village of Uzi, in the northwest of Iran according to Iranian officials. They include Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and other delegates. Many world leaders sent messages after the helicopter crash.
