Two customers sued American Airlines on Monday. The proposed class action suit said that the airlines had removed 1.1 million frequent flier miles. The customers were accused of fraud when they opened multiple AAdvantage accounts using cards from different banks.

Ari and Shanna Nachison filed the lawsuit against American Airlines in San Jose, California. The class action asks for damages for all the accounts terminated as fraud was alleged. These customers had obtained both Citi-Advantage and Barclays-AAdvantage credit cards.

The Los Gatos, California residents said that American Airlines sent them emails that told them their accounts had been terminated. The reasons mentioned said they had violations “related to the accrual of ineligible miles and benefits; through fraud, misrepresentation and/or abuse of their AAdvantage Program.”

The Nachisons believe that statutes of limitations do not apply to them as the emails from American Airlines did not specify violations or credit cards at issue, leading to a delay in seeking legal action.

Ari Nachison lost 564,463 miles, while Shanna Nachison lost 550,664 miles. They had opened multiple AAdvantage accounts with Citibank and Barclays. The Texas-based airlines wrongly accused them of fraud as they opened various accounts. They said that they lost a combined 1.1 million miles in 2020 and also said that they had done nothing wrong. They said that there were no bonus restrictions in the credit cards they had signed up.

By the end of 2023, American Airlines announced several changes to its AAdvantage Program. It had also made changes in 2022.

Neither American Airlines nor the Nachisons have responded when asked for comment.
