Anna Hall broke the national women’s pentathlon record while winning the event at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Denver native posted a score of 5,004 points, the second-highest mark ever by a female competitor. Ukraine’s Nataliya Dobrynska scored 5,013 points on March 9, 2012, in Istanbul, Turkey. The old U.S. mark of 4,805 points was established by Sharon Day-Monroe in Albuquerque nine years ago.

Hall won all five pentathlon events. She came in first in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.04 seconds, on high jump at 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3.2 inches), on shot put at 13.8 meters (45 feet, 3.3 inches), on long jump at 6.34 meters (20 feet, 9.6 inches) and on the 800 meters at 2 minutes, 5.7 seconds.

Hall, who was the 2022 NCAA heptathlon champion for Florida last year, earned a bronze medal in the event at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Hope Bender came in second behind Hall on Thursday at 4,445 points after placing second in the 800 meters. Erin Marsh, who took second in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump, captured third place with 4,432 points.

Only two other events concluded Thursday on the first day of the meet.

Nick Christie won the men’s 3,000-meter racewalk in 11 minutes, 56.67 seconds. Daniel Nehnevaj took second place at 12:19.23, and Emmanuel Corvera came in third at 12:50.49.

Miranda Melville earned gold in the women’s 3,000-meter racewalk, crossing the line in 13:37.69. She was followed by Maria Michta-Coffey (13:49.29) in second and Janelle Branch (14:04.17) in third.

Through four of seven events in the men’s heptathlon, Will Daniels is in first place with 3,430 points, just ahead of Steven Bastien (3,390) and Samuel Black (3,289). Daniels won the heptathlon 60 meters and high jump. Black placed first in the heptathlon long jump, and Black came out on top in the heptathlon shot put.
