Apple Inc. has delighted its customers with the recent launch of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, next generation Apple Watch and AirPods Pro. However, its much sought after features on its newest operating system, the iOS 16 might earn it the most plaudits as it has finally made changes that its customers have been asking, for years and years. The Cupertino giant has finally added features that let the user edit or to unsend messages on iMessage, but there are caveats.

Many of us who make typos when we write messages or shoot off words in anger or irritation and then feel remorse or regret have always wished that Apple’s operating system provided us with the option to edit texts after they have been sent or to even unsend some text messages. Finally, the tech giant has taken cognizance of its users’ weaknesses or carelessness and has added the unsend and edit feature to iOS 16.

Although both these much desired features have finally been added, there are a few points to be noted. The feature works only for those who have iOS 16 installed, so it will not work well for Apple users who cannot upgrade their software. It will also not work with Android phones.

These features are also not stealth features. Those who are the intended recipients of the edited or unsent message, will be informed of the same, although they cannot see the changes that were made, in iOS 16.

The Apple support page says that a user can undo a recently sent message but it has been undone within a period of two minutes after the message has been sent. However, the edit button works for a longer time as a message can be edited up to five times within 15 minutes, after it is has been sent.

Although these were the much sought of features on iMessage as other platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and GMail have been offering similar edit and unsend features from a long time, iMessage also has a few additional features that will be welcomed by its users.

The latest iO 16 operating system from Apple allows users to mark messages as unread. This way, readers can respond to these messages at a later date. The newest operating system also gives users the option to recover a deleted message for up to 30 days.
