South Korean Soonwoo Kwon became the first lucky loser to win an ATP title since 2018 on Saturday with his three-set victory over Robert Bautista Agut at the Adelaide International 2 event in Australia.

Kwon needed two hours, 43 minutes to dispatch the fourth-seeded Spaniard 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4) in the ATP 250 event, the final tuneup for the Australian Open. Eleven aces helped Kwon win points on 79 percent of his first serves and hit 42 winners compared to 23 for Bautista Agut.

Kwon, 25, became the first South Korean to win multiple tour titles, following his victory at the Astana Open in Kazakhstan in 2021.

–ASB Classic

Richard Gasquet of France won his first ATP Tour title since 2018 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Brit Cameron Norrie in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 36-year-old Gasquet was down 4-1 in the third set but won the final five games to defeat the second-seeded Norrie and become the oldest champion in the event, which has been held 66 years.

This was the 16th win of Gasquet’s career but just the second on the hard courts.
