Fifth-seeded Tommy Paul rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in the opening round of the Japan Open on Monday in Tokyo.

Australia’s Jordan Thompson knocked out No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-3, 6-4 and No. 8 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada outlasted Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic 7-6 (3), 6-7 (2), 6-2.

Marcos Giron defeated Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 (14), 4-6, 6-1. Mackenzie McDonald was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Australian Max Purcell. Austria’s Sebastian Ofner needed 2 hours and 48 minutes to finish a 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 7-5 win against Australia’s Christopher O’Connell.

Nordic Open

Croatian teenager Dino Prizmic stunned sixth-seeded Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5 to reach the second round in Stockholm, Sweden.

Prizmic, 18, only faced one break point and picked up his third career tour-level victory in 1 hour and 41 minutes. Up next is Swedish wild card Elias Ymer, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic ousted Sweden’s Karl Friberg 6-4, 6-2 and Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego outlasted Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

European Open

Estonia’s Mark Lajal earned his first ATP Tour victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Spaniard Jaume Munar in opening-round action in Antwerp, Belgium.

The 20-year-old wild-card entry struck eight aces, saved both break points he faced and won 84.8 percent (28 of 33) of his first-service points. His second-round opponent will be fourth-seeded Arthur Fils of France.

Belgium’s David Goffin thrilled the home crowd with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of France’s Quentin Halys. Gregoire Barrere of France posted a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win over Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia and France’s Hugo Gaston beat countryman Arthur Rinderknech 7-6 (7), 6-4.
