ATP News: Great Britain and Spain win United Cup openers

Great Britain and Spain won group stage openers on Friday as United Cup action begin in Perth, Australia.

Britain swept Australia 2-0 in Group C, which also includes the United States.

Cameron Norrie held off Alex de Minaur 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (2) and Katie Boulter — de Minaur’s girlfriend — defeated Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2, 6-4.

Spain defeated Brazil 2-1 to take the early lead in Group A, which also includes Poland.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina put Spain ahead with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Thiago Seyboth Wild, but Beatriz Haddad Maia got Brazil even with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 defeat of Sara Sorribes Tormo. Davidovich and Fokina defeated Haddad Maia and Marcelo Melo 6-4, 7-5 in the decisive doubles match.
