ATP News: J.J. Wolf knocks off No. 6 seed in Eastbourne

Unseeded J.J. Wolf upset No. 6 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-2, 6-4 on Monday in the first round of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, Great Britain.

Wolf laced nine aces and won 89 percent of his first serves to oust Etcheverry in two hours and 39 minutes in the final grass-court tune-up before the start of Wimbledon.

Eighth-seeded Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia held off China’s Yibing Wu 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) to advance.

Argentina’s Sebastian Baez beat Portugal’s Nuno Borges in straight sets while Gregoire Barrere of France rallied to upend Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in a match that lasted nearly three hours.

Qualifiers Aleksandar Vukic of Australia, Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland and 19-year-old Frenchman Luca Van Assche also posted victories to advance.
