Monday night, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) unveiled a high performance concept car. This vehicle is a hybrid with an electrified crossover. It is expected to go into production in the last few months of 2022 in South Carolina, U.S.A. The automaker said that the new car will be called BMW XM. It will be only be available as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

A BMW press release said that this newest model would be the “most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production.” The automaker also said that it expects the U.S. to be the most important sales market for this high performance hybrid.

Three months ago, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse had told CNBC that the automaker would unveil a new vehicle in 2021 that would rollout from its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The plant already manufactures the following models as well as performance models of most of the vehicles:

BMW X3
BMW X4
BMW X5
BMW X6
BMW X7.

The company has not revealed the full specs of the vehicle. However, the following specs are expected to be a part of the model M.

A V-8 engine with a high performance electric motor with up to 750 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque.
An estimated 80 kilometers of all-electric range after it is plugged in and charged.
The exterior design has separate head modules and larger air intakes.
It has two tone paint and tapered side glass.
The taillights seem to cut through the body.
Twin BMW logos are etched into the rear glass.
The interior has an attractive vintage look leather with accents of carbon fiber interwoven in front.
The rear seats are called M lounge and are finished with leather, quilted velvet and a diamond pattern deep-pile carpet.
