Tony Gonsolin pitched five strong innings, while Mookie Betts and Max Muncy hit home runs, as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 9-1 victory Wednesday over the visiting San Francisco Giants to sweep a brief two-game series between National League West rivals.

Freddie Freeman had a two-run triple as the Dodgers won for the fourth time in their last five games.

Brandon Crawford hit a home run for the Giants, while Alex Wood pitched into the sixth inning as San Francisco lost for the fifth time in its last six games.

Gonsolin (2-0), who wasn’t officially named the Dodgers starter until earlier Wednesday, gave up one run on three hits over five innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Wood (2-2), who had two stints with the Dodgers between 2015 and 2020, gave up three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Crawford hit a home run to right-center field, his second.

Wood faced the minimum nine batters over the first three innings before Betts led off the fourth with a single. Freeman walked before Trea Turner and Will Smith hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 2-1 advantage.

The Dodgers made it 3-1 in the sixth inning when Betts hit a home run to right-center off Wood, his fourth of the season to tie Cody Bellinger for the team lead.

The Dodgers blew the game open in the seventh inning with four runs off Giants relievers Mauricio Llovera and Sam Long. Los Angeles scored on Gavin Lux’s infield single, Betts’ sacrifice fly and Freeman’s two-run triple to right.

Muncy hit a two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning, his third. Justin Turner singled in the eighth for Los Angeles to end an 0-for-17 drought.

The Giants’ Joc Pederson (groin) started for the first time since last Wednesday and Mike Yastrzemski (COVID IL) started for the first time since April 23. The duo was a combined 1-for-8.
