DOTA News: Azure Ray, Gaimin Gladiators rolling in Kuala Lumpur

Azure Ray and Gaimin Gladiators advanced to the final in the upper bracket during Wednesday’s action at ESL One Kuala Lumpur.

Both teams earned spots in the upper bracket from Group A, where Azure Ray (3-2-0) finished the group stage with a 2-0 sweep of Gaimin Gladiators (2-2-1). Team Secret and BetBoom Team moved into the lower bracket from Group A and Blacklist International and Wawitas Sagazes were eliminated.

G2.iG (4-0-1) and Team Falcons (3-1-1) advanced to the upper bracket in Group B. G2.iG swept 9Pandas and Team Falcons swept Tundra Esports in their group-stage finales. Tundra Esports and Team Liquid claimed berths in the lower bracket and LGD Gaming and 9Pandas were sent home.

Azure Ray opened the double-elimination playoffs with a 2-1 win over Team Falcons. Azure Ray sandwiched a 52- and 50-minute wins on red around Team Falcons’ 37-minute win on red.

Gaimin Gladiators also won 2-1 in the upper-bracket semifinals. After G2.iG opened with a 42-minute win on red, Gaimin Gladiators answered with 27- and 30-minute victories on green.

Twelve teams began the $1 million Dota 2 tournament in the Malaysian capital. The winner of Sunday’s best-of-five grand final will earn $300,000 and 4,800 ESL Pro Tour points.
