Harvard forward Kale Catchings committed to Duke as a graduate transfer on Tuesday, marking the first transfer portal addition for new Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer.

Catchings, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Missouri, started all 24 games he played in the 2021-22 season and was a team captain. He averaged 9.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game for the Crimson on the year.

At Harvard, Catchings played for coach Tommy Amaker, a Duke alumnus and former assistant coach.

Duke has had five players declare for the NBA draft since the conclusion of the season: Paolo Banchero, Trevor Keels, Wendell Moore Jr., Mark Williams and AJ Griffin.

After reaching the Final Four and losing to North Carolina in Mike Krzyzewski’s final season before retirement, Duke is reloading with the top-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. The class includes a quartet of five-star recruits, with the No. 1 player in the nation, Dereck Lively II of Pennsylvania, among them.
