Now, only 600 posts can be viewed daily by unverified accounts, and only 300 can be viewed daily by “new” unverified accounts. Musk revealed that the tweet limits would be temporary, with verified accounts allowed to read 8,000 posts per day, unverified accounts limited to 800 posts, and new unverified accounts restricted to 400 posts daily. However, later in the day, Musk tweeted again, stating that the limits would be raised to 10,000, 1,000, and 500 posts, respectively, without specifying when these changes would take effect.

The outage left many Twitter users frustrated as they encountered error messages such as “Rate limit exceeded” or “Cannot retrieve tweets” when attempting to access or post content. Over 7,300 individuals reported issues with Twitter by 11 a.m. ET, highlighting the widespread impact of the disruption.
Additionally, Twitter restricted access to content previously available to non-logged-in users, prompting an immediate login prompt. Musk cited “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation” by “several hundred organizations” as the cause for these new constraints, without offering further details on the actors involved or the duration of the issue.
