On August 16, thousands of fans paid tribute to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, with a candlelight vigil in Memphis, Tennessee. It is his death anniversary. Despite the passage of over four decades, fans come to Graceland, to pay tribute to the legend.

Elvis Presley was 42 years old when he died. It is now a greater number of years since he died (44), yet diehard fans believe that his legacy remains. Many fans mentioned his generosity as well as his charitable acts that encompass his family, his friends as well as his fans on his anniversary.

On August 16, 1977, Ginger Alden found an unconscious Elvis in his bathroom in Graceland. His fiancée Ginger had been with him in their Memphis home, which is his resting place and has subsequently been converted to a memorial in his honor.

Although the death was reported as cardiac arrest on his death certificate, there were several rumors that he had overdosed. Elvis had developed a dependence on drugs including sleeping pills and Valium.

Linda Thompson, a former girlfriend of Elvis posted on social media ahead of his 44th death anniversary that he would have been “astonished” to learn about his influence to date as thousands of fans congregate to Graceland, each year in honor of his memory.

The 71-year-old friend lived with Elvis from 1972 to 1976 in his mansion at Memphis. She was a former Miss Tennessee and a model. She posted throwback pictures of them from the seventies and captioned the Instagram post “Elvis week has commenced in Memphis.”

She asked fans to look past their three-wheeled vehicle and catch a glimpse of Elvis Presley boulevard in the seventies. She also said that his birth and death anniversaries were remembered by “tens of thousands of people” worldwide.

Although he died young at 42, Elvis Presley left behind a legacy that continues to give.
