Grizzlies hold off Raptors to end losing streak

Jaren Jackson Jr. had 27 points and six steals and the visiting Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Toronto Raptors 108-100 on Monday night.

Luke Kennard added 19 points for the Grizzlies, who had lost their previous two games. Vince Williams Jr. added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Santi Aldama had 10 points and John Konchar had six points and five blocked shots.

Scottie Barnes had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Raptors, who have lost three straight. RJ Barrett added 29 points and nine rebounds. Thaddeus Young scored 12 points and Dennis Schroder finished with 11.

The Grizzlies took a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter and quickly increased the margin to 19.

Young’s hook shot cut the margin to 13 with 6:42 to play. Jackson answered with a 3-pointer. Toronto trimmed the deficit to 10 on Young’s dunk with 3:01 to go.

Jackson had 16 points and six steals in the first quarter to help Memphis take a 30-25 lead.

Toronto tied the score at 32 early in the second quarter before Memphis went on an 8-0 surge.

Jacob Gilyard made a 20-footer to stretch the margin to 11 with 5:07 left in the quarter.

Barnes’ blocked shot set up Bruce Brown’s layup that completed the first-half scoring and cut the Grizzlies’ lead to 53-46.

Memphis shot 51.2 percent (22-for-43) from the floor in the first half. Jackson led the Grizzlies with 16 points.

Toronto shot 45 percent (18-for-40) in the first half, and the Raptors were led by Barrett’s 13 points.

Memphis took an 11-point lead early in the third quarter. Barnes made a 3-pointer to trim the lead to six with 8:51 left in the quarter. Kennard’s 3-pointer pushed Memphis’ lead to 16 with 6:41 to play in the third. Memphis led 85-71 after the third quarter.

Jakob Poeltl (ankle) did not play for Toronto.

Desmond Bane (ankle), Ja Morant (shoulder) and Marcus Smart (finger) did not play for Memphis.
