Hanna Cavinder announces return to Hurricanes

After taking a year off from college basketball, Hanna Cavinder is returning to Miami for her final year of eligibility, she announced Wednesday.

Hanna and her twin, Haley, started their basketball careers at Fresno State, playing there three seasons before transferring to Miami. With the greater visibility of the Hurricanes program, and their social media following in the millions, the Cavinders were among the first college players to cash in big on name, image and likeness deals.

After one season with Miami, in which the team reached the Elite Eight in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the sisters announced they were leaving Miami to pursue business opportunities and other interests.

Haley announced in November that she’d be playing at TCU in 2024-25 for her final season of eligibility.

Hanna instead opted to finish her career at Miami.

“Over the past few months I have been itching to get back to the game that I thought I lost the love and passion for,” Hanna Cavinder, 23, posted to social media. “Nothing quite fills the void that this sport brings me.

“With that all being said, I have decided to return for one more season.

“Let’s run it back miami.”

Hanna Cavinder has averages of 12.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 123 career games (87 starts).

In the 2022-23 season, she came off the Miami bench and appeared in 34 games, averaging 3.8 points in 16.7 minutes per game.
