After placing right-handed reliever Drew Steckenrider on the restricted list Monday, Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said before the series opener at Toronto that left-handed starter Robbie Ray is not with the club either.

No official reason was given for the status of either player. Canada does require all players from United States-based clubs to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they can enter the county.

Ray, 30, started for Seattle in Sunday’s road game against the New York Mets and earned the win despite giving up five runs over six innings. Ray (4-3, 4.62 ERA) is next scheduled to pitch Friday in the upcoming road series against the Boston Red Sox.

Steckenrider, 31, is 0-1 with two saves and a 4.85 ERA in 14 relief appearances this season and is 10-10 with 22 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 199 career relief appearances over five seasons with the Miami Marlins and Mariners. He was replaced on the active roster by left-hander Roenis Elias.
