LOL News: FlyQuest slip past Liquid in LCS Spring playoffs

FlyQuest eked out a 3-2 win over Team Liquid on Friday to reach the upper-bracket final of the League Championship Series Spring Split playoffs.

The result sends FlyQuest to a March 23 match against Cloud9, with the winner advancing to the grand final.

FlyQuest opened with a 37-minute victory on blue before Liquid responded with a 37-minute win on red. FlyQuest jumped in front again with a 31-minute triumph on blue, but Liquid again equalized, prevailing in 28 minutes on blue.

On the decisive fifth map, FlyQuest won in 41 minutes on blue.

Canada’s Fahad “Massu” Abdulmalek paced FlyQuest with a 33-14-46 kill-death-assist ratio, while teammate Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen of Denmark wound up at 31-13-50. The United States’ Sean “Yeon” Sung led Liquid at 32-22-42.

The lower-bracket, first-round matches will be played this weekend, with 100 Thieves opposing NRG on Saturday and Liquid facing Dignitas on Sunday.

The Spring Split playoff champion and runner-up will be the North American League of Legends circuit’s representatives in the Mid-Season Invitational, scheduled for May 1-19 in China. The LCS winner heads to the MSI main draw, while the second-place team will compete in the MSI’s play-in event.
